Do you know a murderer?

Kind of a strange thing to think of, I know. But we actually had this discussion at lunch today because today was the funeral. About a week ago, someone was shot a block from my house. There was all kinds of excitement--at least 6 police cars and an ambulance. It was a while before we had any idea as to what was happening.
Then came the rumors. We learned someone was shot and died the next morning. My students had been talking about it. Heck, the whole town was talking about it.
Apparently the young man who did the shooting was supposedly best friends with the one he shot. They were able to get a confession from him because of the evidence that yes he did shoot the other man--it was not the man shooting himself. All of that CSI stuff--gun powder residue, position of bullet hole, left handed versus right handed.
In the end, it was the brother of one of my previous students who had done the shooting. Many of my collegues knew this boy when he was a student at our school. They know a murderer. I found out over the years, they know more than one.
It is a profound thought to have met a murderer. I have a friend who used to be a taxi driver and drove a soon-to-be murderer around getting supplies. The man was going to flee into the woods after he had done his deed. He is currently in a mental institution. Guess what? Come to think of it, I know his brother too.
